Meet our Bloggers!
We are delighted to be kicking off the Fall season at The Civic Theatre with an extraordinary team of new and returning bloggers. It is really exciting to begin a bigger conversation about cinema, film making, and film appreciation, especially with such a diverse group of local voices.
So what are we asking our blogging team to write about? It’s really up to them. You can look forward to diverse voices and interests, differing opinions, and engaging questions on a wide array of topics both on-screen and behind the scenes of film creation and innovation.
Read on to learn a little more about The Civic’s bloggers!
Heather Austin is a freelance writer living in Nelson, BC. She studied English Literature and Film at Memorial University of Newfoundland. She enjoys skiing, canoeing, and thinking.
Hi everyone! My name is William Corven, and I’m a grade 12 student at LVR. I’ve always loved movies, and more recently became seriously interested in the community and industry. I believe films are one of the pinnacles of art, and one of the greatest and most effective ways to spread a story. My favorite movies include: Rosemary’s Baby (1968), The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966), Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004), Dr. Strangelove (1964), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1986), Little Miss Sunshine (2006), and Rear Window (1954).
Aerin Guy is a self-proclaimed “culture vulture” who lives in Rossland, BC. A cinephile with a special love for dark tales, Aerin works online and balances her movie watching habits with open water swimming & skiing the pow. Aerin won the Most Enthusiastic Square Dancer Award in Grade 10 and hasn’t looked back.
Brendan Quinn is a Journalism graduate who recently moved to Nelson to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life in Toronto. He currently writes for the Nelson Daily, as well as Comics & Gaming Magazine and is always looking for someone to read his rants and opinions. Outside of writing, Brendan enjoys snowboarding, mountain biking, and studying the First World War. When he’s not doing those things he’s usually playing videogames or reading, two of his favourite activities despite his extroverted and social nature. His favourite films include Braveheart, Trainspotting, Inglourious Basterds and tricking people into watching Martyrs.
Born and raised in the Kootenays, Jordan Norn has a passion for both creating and viewing film. Outside of that, he enjoys everything the great outdoors has to offer, topped off with a healthy serving of video games. Though blogging is a new challenge, he hopes that it will expand his horizons in the world of film.
Iain Pardoe is an online university instructor originally from the UK who has called Nelson home since 2008. He has loved watching movies his whole life and has fond memories of queueing for hours to see the first Star Wars and catching matinees at the art house cinema down the street while a student. Now he enjoys the movies of Hayao Miyazaki even more than the kids and loves rewatching favourites from his youth with his family when he’s not playing soccer or skiing.
