The Pitch (Feb 5 – 11 and beyond)
A family friendly film for the Family Day long weekend, plus a look at our exiting confirmations leading up to The Oscars.
Kung Fu Panda 3 (rated G), featuring some new voice talent from Academy Award Best Actor nominated, Bryan Cranston and last year’s winner of best supporting actor, J.K. Simmons, comes to the Civic for a whole week this Family day long-weekend. When Po’s long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible-learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas.
Too valuable information to wait for the coming week’s Pitch, The Civic has received early confirmation on the line up leading up to the Academy Awards. Tapping out this week with best pic nominated films, Spotlight, Brooklyn and Room, The Civic follows Kung Fu Panda, with best pic nominated, The Big Short, and best actress and supporting actress nominated, Carol (best pic nominated at the Golden Globes) for the weekend/Tuesday Feb. 12 – 16 run. Best Actor nominated, Eddie Redmayne and Best supporting actress, Alicia Vikander star in The Danish Girl splitting with Charlie Kaufman’s best animated nominated Anamolisa, Feb. 15th and 23rd. Best Foreign language nominated Son of Saul plays with an encore screening of Room on Feb. 18th and with another best foreign language nominee, Theeb on Feb. 24th. Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence, three-time best actress nominated, and all three for David O. Russell films, is the only to be confirmed title, but it will most likely play Feb. 20 and 21st. One more Best Foreign language nominee fills out the week with, Mustang from Turkey, playing on Feb. 25th. Following our live Oscar stream on Feb. 28th, Best Picture nominated Mad Max: Fury Road plays Feb. 29th as our February Member Monday movie (Free for members, $10 for everyone else.)
