Mads x 2: The dark sorcerer and the Jedi, this week at The Civic.

Cumberbatch, Mikkelsen, Swinton, McAdams and Ejiofor?  Marvel has secured a stellar cast for their latest entry Dr. Strange (PG). 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this mix makes me want to give the superhero genre another chance.  We all know how long we’ve had to wait to get this one into The Civic, so don’t wait another minute to check out the mystical world opening this Friday.

Mads Mikkelsen makes a second appearance this week, with the sneak preview Thursday screening of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The Rebellion moves to steal the plans to the Death Star igniting the events that transpire over the classic Trilogy.  All I know, is that a lot of Bothan spies are going to die.

And between the two, The West Kootenay Ecosociety presents Hadwin’s Judgement on Wednesday, Dec. 14th. A spellbinding account of environmentalism, obsession, and myth, chronicling BC logging engineer and survivalist Grant Hadwin’s emotional crusade to alert us all to the egregious devastation wrought by clear-cutting on the world’s last great temperate rainforest. His journey ends with a shocking, illegal act—a tragic mystery and a prophetic warning.

A short presentation and Q & A will follow the film with Herb Hammond, who is featured in the film. Herb is a forest ecologist, forester, keynote speaker, and award winning author who developed the process of ecosystem-based conservation planning, which he has assisted First Nations and other rural communities to apply across Canada and elsewhere in the world over the past four decades.
