Next 2-weeks at the Civic (Feb. 21 – Mar. 06)
After we play with our Lego over the Feb. 21 – 25 run, the Mater Builders at the Civic assemble a week of Oscar hopefuls, 70’s formal celebrations and a prize or two.
An ordinary LEGO minifigure, mistakenly thought to be the extraordinary Master Builder, is recruited to join a quest to stop an evil LEGO tyrant from gluing the universe together in The Lego Movie (rated G).
And when the bricks settle, it will be time to help Philomena (rated PG) search for her son, who was taken away from her decades ago by the Catholic church on Feb. 26.
And while we show the dirt of one institution let us poke holes in another. Let us help electrician and hustler Ron Woodroof buck the medical system to administer badly needed drugs to HIV sufferers through The Dallas Buyers Club (rated 14A) Feb. 27.
On Feb. 28 we break orbit to reconnect with ourselves on a deeply personal level in the cold of space in Gravity (rated PG).
It’s time to do the Nelson Hustle on Mar. 1. Civic celebrates its one year birthday with the class only a 70’s formal Pre-Oscar party can provide. Come in costume for a chance to win an Oscar and stay for an encore screening of the Best Pic nominated American Hustle (rated 14A).
If you have escaped falling asleep on the red carpet in all your 70’s garb, be sure to frolic with the bears and mice at a Mar. 2 matinee screening of the beautifully rendered best animated feature hopeful Ernest and Celestine (rated G) from France.
Following the matinee, its time for the big event. Watch the Oscars live on the Civic screen free/by donation to see how your picks fared.
Why stop at the Oscars, 12 Years a Slave, (14A) returns for a encore screening after technical mishaps at its previous show date. Don’t miss the chance to see this film after it is crowned best picture only days before?
In the Italian mood? We are too. The Civic was not satisfied with only one best foreign contender, so come and see The Great Beauty, winner of the best foreign language film at the Golden Globes for the Thursday film on Mar. 6. Come and wind your way through the lavish nightlife of Rome with the aging Jep Gambardella.
Dang that’s a lot of good film. Click showtimes below to buy your tickets.
