Next up @ the Civic (Apr. 4 – 15)
Our friendly neighbor to the south, Captain America, makes an on-the-break stop to Nelson’s Civic Theatre this Friday.
Unless you need to hit the Canadian Tire or have a hankerin for a Big Mac, there will be no need for you to head to Castlegar this week. The Civic has confirmed that we get to open Disney’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier on the film’s release date of April 4th. Even better, we only have to provide a one-week commitment so we can catch up with Divergent the following Friday, April 11th. Usually to open a film, a theatre is required to give a 2-week commitment, especially for a Disney film. Unfortunately this commitment will mean no art house film on Thursday April 10; apologies to our loyal Thursday film goers.
Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and battles a new threat from old history: the Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier.
But before the big weekend, don’t forget about Bruce MacDonald’s Candaian cult classic Highway 61, playing tonight, Monday, Mar. 31 @ 7pm – FREE for members. And make sure you don’t miss the final chance to see Hyao Miyazaki’s farewell animated masterpiece The Wind Rises on the big screen this Tuesday @ 7pm. Visceral beyond description, the stylistic 300: Rise of an Empire also wraps up this Tuesday @ 9:30. And finally before we join up with our hero in stars and stripes, we will discover a new perspective on the Flemish hero of fine art, Johannes Vermeer, in the unique documentary Tim’s Vermeer, this Thursday @ 7:30.
Sorry, gotta split, I’ve got Nick Fury on the other line.
J.
Screening times:
Friday, April 4th – Thursday, April 10th @ 7pm with a 2pm matinee on Sunday, April 6th
