Writer and musian Nick Cave marks his 20,000th day on the planet Earth… from the film’s title and the opening images I at first thought it might be like Keifer Sutherland’s TV series . The film depicts a fictitious 24 hours in the life of Australian musician and songwriter Nick Cave prior to and during the recording of his 2013 album . Although the film purports to be a fictional documentary I felt that it was quite real and fascinating. While Nick is working on a song , Warren points out to him that the melodic line resembles a Lionel Ritchie tune(true) . While riding in a car with Nick the British actor Ray Winstone starts jokingly talking about his gig as Henry VIII in a BBC-TV show (also from real life)… Even though I knew nothing about his music beforehand I found Cave’s story ENGROSSING. He has quite a self-deprecating sense of humour. The film’s byline runs ” I have a thing about things. Some people, they don’t have a thing about nothing.” The film’s official website matter-of-factly refers to ” The Museum of Important Shzt ( excuse me).
Cory Everett of Indiewire has praised the film and said that “While the doc should prove essential for Nick Cave fans , it should be inspiring for those interested in the creative process or anyone searching for their muse”.
Rob Nelson in Variety praised the film by saying that “This innovative study of Nick Cave playfully disguises itself as fiction while more than fulfilling the requirements of a biographical documentary”.
Metacritic gives it a rating of 83% based on 25 reviews and the Rotten Tomatoes rating is 955 based on 65 reviews.
