In the few short years since it was reopened by the Nelson Civic Theatre Society, The Civic Theatre has become Nelson’s film centre, showing a wide variety of film, ranging from current blockbusters to local independent films, and all sorts of offerings in between, always with an eye on serving and supporting our local community. Our team of staff and volunteers is enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and visionary, with a love for cinema and a dedication to continuing to grow and improve the ways in which The Civic Theatre contributes to our local community. This position is a temporary position funded through the Columbia Basin Trust School Works program. Applicants must be full-time post-secondary or high school students and able to commit to working 15 hours per week through May 26, 2017.
Job Role
As Administrative Assistant, you will provide support to select NCTS staff through a variety of clerical, organizing and administrative duties, including:
- Reception: During select daytime hours, answer the administrative line, receive facility guests and deliveries.
- Office Administration: Open and distribute mail, maintain office inventory, and support office space and technical needs.
- Clerical support: Support a variety of written correspondence, including issuing thank yous for gifts to the society, filing, data entry, research, and other administrative functions, as required.
- Special projects: Support organization of special events, meetings and receptions, support staff in preparing grant applications and in marketing efforts.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Currently a full-time post-secondary or high school student in an accredited program.
- A passion for community-building and cinema.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask, change focus, and meet tight deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail, while being able to see the big picture.
- Ability to thrive, collaborate, and adapt to change in a small and busy office in a rapidly evolving organization.
- High degree of self-motivation and good work ethic with proven ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
- A strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with Gmail and Google Drive.
- Civicrm database experience is an asset.
- Special event experience is an asset.
- Research Experience is an asset.
- Office and nonprofit experience are assets.
Remuneration: $15 per hour
