More Movies Please.

We promised more movies and here we are now three weeks and 7 films into our regular summer movies!  Each weekend we’ll show two late first run movies—blockbusters shown a few weeks after their release to allow us programming flexibility. Movies  shown “on the break” are subject to distribution rules that would mean screening Iron Man 3, with no splits, for two solid weeks—a little too much of a good thing.  So save your gas and trust that the hot movies will come to Nelson in—well, in Nelson time.

Starting July 5, come out for Man of Steel, in which Superman’s origins are revealed, split with the post apocalyptic black comedy This is the End, directed and starring Seth Rogan. For showtimes go to www.civictheatre.ca.

We’ve reinstated Cheap Tuesdays, and brought back Thursday Night Movies: the art-house and indie flicks Nelson film lovers crave. Next Thursday, catch Unclaimed, the story of a man who claims he was declared dead after being shot down over Laos in a 1968 classified mission, then left behind in Vietnam for 45 years. Director Michael Jorgensen will be here in person for a post screening Q & A. And on July 11, the coming-of-age film Mud makes its Nelson debut.

The tentative scheduling for the following 3 weeks include World War Z, Now You See Me, Lone Ranger, Monster’s University, Pacific Rim and Despicable Me 2.  Tentative Thursdays include Frances Ha, Joss Whedon’s modern rendering of Much Ado About Nothing and Richard Linklater’s Before Midnight.

All these films and amazing new sound and picture, the Civic is all that and a bag of popcorn!  ….with real butter!!!
