You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll shout “Khan!!!” this week at The Civic

Between one of our two alternating features this weekend, you will definitely be laughing till it hurts or kills you and then leaves you undead.  Will Ferrel is taught to Get Hard (rated 14A) in preparation for his stay in San Quentin and vampire flatmates have to struggle with modern life – like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts in What We Do In the Shadows (rated PG) from the creators of Flight of the Conchords. 

Following a quick general meeting of the NCTS members at 6:30 on Apr. 13, we launch into our April Member Monday Movie, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, where we will shed a tear for the late great Vulcan, Leonard Nimoy and tremble in fear at the greatest of Shatner’s screen screams.

But as the circle of life is continuous, so too is it with our next generation of film voices.  As Spock is reborn of the Genesis device in  Star Trek III, the shining new voices of the Self Design High Youth Film Festival will pick up the torch from Leonard Nimoy.  The festival will feature short animation, documentary, art, action, adventure & fiction films created by youth aged 13-30 from around the province. The festival celebrates youth voice in film, and aims to develop that voice by bringing young makers together to co-inspire and advance their skills through hands-on workshops lead by film professionals. Submitted films will be shown at 7pm on Wed. Apr. 15th and a special screening of the Toronto International Film Festival Canada’s Top Ten Student Shorts program will screen on Thurs. Apr. 16th at 7pm.
