Pledge your support for EarthHour and the Civic Theatre!
Movies can unite our community – EarthHour can unite the world! Please join us in pledging support to fight climate change here in Nelson.
This Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm is EarthHour – an annual moment of global action to raise awareness of climate change and the importance of working together on an issue that affects us all.
The Civic Theatre will turn off all non-essential power (i.e. everything but the projector!) to help Nelson Hydro see a noticeable drop in energy use across our community.
How will you take part?
We of course recommend you join us at the theatre Saturday evening for The Wind Rises or 300: Rise of an Empire so that you can turn off all the lights, heat, televisions, ovens and other unnecessary equipment at your house while you relax in ours. Canada and America rank as the highest users of electricity per household in the world so anything you can do during this hour is a big help.
Pledge Your Energy Reduction
Nelson Hydro has created a website allowing you to pledge support for EarthHour. Add your name to the growing list of Nelsonites who plan to reduce energy consumption during EarthHour.
To get as many people as possible engaged in Earth Hour and energy reduction all year long, Nelson Hydro will be giving $1000 to a local charity! One of the people who pledge will be randomly selected to choose a local non-profit society or charity of their choice to receive $1000 from Nelson Hydro. (Naturally we hope you will choose the Nelson Civic Theatre Society!)
If our Society is selected, the $1000 will go towards our Concession upgrade – we plan to buy a more efficient popcorn maker so perhaps this would be Kismet!
