The Pitch (Aug. 14 – 20)
Silent, but deadly.
Opening this weekend, the latest of the Mission Impossible franchise, Rogue Nation (rated PG) continues to step up its game and Simon Pegg’s character – awesome! The film has been praised for the strong character that co-star Rebecca Ferguson portrays despite an issue with the posters that Pegg spoke out about publicly, ” it was me in a jacket, Tom [Cruise] in a jacket, Jeremy [Renner] in a jacket, Ving [Rhames] in a jacket and Rebecca in leather with her butt sticking out… no, don’t do that, we’re doing something good here. Trying to at least.”
Rouge Nation opens on Aug. 14th and plays through the weekend and Tuesday. Ethan and his stealthy team take on their most impossible mission yet, eradicating the Syndicate – an International rogue organization as highly skilled as they are, committed to destroying the IMF. A 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Our Thursday film is a definite must see as little will be heard. A deaf teenager enters a specialized boarding school where, to survive, he becomes part of a wild organization – The Tribe (unrated). His love for one of the concubines will unwillingly lead him to break all the unwritten rules within the Tribe’s hierarchy. Told in Ukrainian sign language with no subtitles, this haunting drama speaks volumes. The Tribe is a bold, innovative take on silent films for a contemporary audience. First time director, Miroslav Slaboshpitsky, won The Critics week Grand Prize at Cannes, AFI’s New Auteurs award, BFI’s Sutherland Trophy (to the maker of the most original and imaginative first feature film) and numerous others.
Coming Soon: Shaun The Sheep, Mr. Holmes, Vacation
