The Pitch (Sept 11 – 17)
Straight Outta Nelson.
Another eclectic week of cinematic offerings from the ‘hood. I distinctly remember blasting NWA’s game changer outta my dad’s ’86 Ford Taurus – listen to that Ford stock bass!
[Verse One]
Staight outta Nelson, crazy little theatre called The Civic
with more than Hollywood, you don’t want to miss it.
So here’s the rub, after your morning tub
back to school Member Monday, we got The Breakfast Club.
John Hughes, boy, here to direct
30-years later, I have to still give respect.
defining youth culture, that’s how he’s going out
breaking social barriers, that’s how its rolling out.
A must see, for members it’s free
come to the concession for some chocolate and organic tea
as you leave, remember who comped you
you better come back for, Straight Outta Compton…
[chorus]
(City of Nelson, city of Nelson)
Yo J.
Whassup?
Tell ’em what’s playin’
[Verse Two]
Straight Outta Compton, another crazy ass movie
unexpected hit, yo, it really moves me
reflecting the brutal truth through their music and you know this
but at the time the abusive authority won’t show this
see, coz Compton streets were the most dangerous of any city
Cube, E, Dre and Ren, you’re childhoods must be s#*tty
but your rebellion revolutionized pop culture
told the world about life in the hood to the vultures
look, you want to see this, that’s my tip
NWA started a cultural war, ain’t no trip
Straight outta Nelson…
[chorus]
(City of Nelson, city of Nelson)
Guillaume Tell is his name and the boy is coming…
[Verse Three]
…straight outta Royal Opera House
is a Swiss brotha that wants to free up his mutha
land, from the Austrian occupation
without station, raising up the nation
Rossini premiered this opera at 37
knew it would be his last even though he was long from heaven
See, William helped a prisoner escape, that’s the problem
forced to shoot an apple of his son’s head, he can’t dodge them
but what’s up Thursday, just stay awhile
Ken Loach’s Jimmy’s Hall will give a smile
return to Ireland from exile in America during the Depression
The activist in him reawakens for a session
re-opening the dance hall that caused his deportation
bringing his people from their poverty to some elation
get transported by the stories and the foray
word to glory, of cinema, straight outta Nelson
[chorus]
(City of Nelson, city of Nelson)
(Damn, that line up is dope)
