Open the pod bay doors HAL.

The Civic is opening its doors to a great sampling of diverse offerings in this coming week.  The intelligent computer H.A.L 9000 is taking over the new digital projector to screen the infinite on our first Monthly Member Monday movie, Nov. 18th.  The predicted timeline for 2001: A Space Odyssey may have proved as inaccurate as The Flight of the Conchords’  song ‘Robots’, that predicted the great robotic uprising of the year 2000, but 2001 remains the most visionary story committed to film.  Originally released in ‘Cinerama’, this film must be seen on the big screen to fully appreciate Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece.  Shown in a restored theatrical Digital Cinema print, the Civic screening will not disappoint.  Free for members on a first come, first serve basis.  Don’t forget your membership cards.  Cards will be available for pick-up and memberships sold at the event.

But before we embark on the voyage to the monolith orbiting Jupiter, we will take a trip around the world this Thursday to the many perpetual covert wars being managed by the U.S. government, but fought by mercenary armies not accountable to Congress in Dirty Wars (rated PG).

Then Departing on the 9:15 late show from Nov. 15th – 19th, we take a journey into the depraved and oft hilarious minds that brought you Jackass in Bad Grandpa (rated 14A). 86 year-old Irving Zeisman (Johnny Knoxville) will take his 8-year-old grandson and the audience on the most insane hidden camera road trip ever captured on camera.  The early space bus running Nov. 15th – 19th, will be boarding at 7pm to take the audience and Ender Wiggin to a battle school that orbits the earth to be trained and honed into empathetic killers of an Alien race in Ender’s Game (rated PG).

Finally, The Eco Society will bring us back to terra firma, to witness an Inuit community in Hudson Bay over seven winters adapt to climate change in the documentary People of a Feather, Weds. Nov. 20th.
