A break from the mainstream to remember a French Canadian legend, the human cost of war and that change is good with a Sundance celebrated Indie, a couple of restored epic WW2 classics and a new film from Quebec.

Indie Thursday again dips into the award pool of this year’s Sundance Film Festival with The Spectacular Now (rated 14A). Living in the spectacular now has been what it is all about for Sutter Keely. When the now suddenly lands him passed out drunk on Aimee Finecky’s lawn, he is forced to reevaluate his philosophy and remember that change brings growth.

Association Francophone Kootenay Ouest with Vision Ouest and the Civic theatre present Louis Cyr (rated G). Come check out this beautiful bio pic of the French Canadian legend who was the strongest man in the world at the end of the 19th century this Friday at 7pm.

No director can match David Lean’s scope of grandeur. The Bridge On the River Kwai (rated PG), is an epic film that achieved near universal critical acclaim, winning seven Academy Awards (including Best Picture) and in 1997, this film was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” and selected for preservation in the United States Library of Congress. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. For the second feature in our WW2 classic weekend, The Guns of Navarone (rated PG), need to be taken out by Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn and David Niven to open up a key seaway through Greek territory.
