This Week at the Civic (Oct. 17 – Oct. 23)

Nelson area spirits will dip and soar with the pull and break of gravity’s bonds in this week’s cinematic offerings.

20 Feet From Stardom (Rated PG),  and just out of the spotlight, the voices of the backup singers bring harmony to the biggest bands in popular music and will lift your spirits beyond the clouds this Thursday night.  We’ve had no idea who these amazing singers are their stories until now.

The Gravity (Rated PG) of the situation is no better felt than in the weightlessness of space this weekend and cheap Tuesday.  On a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes leaving Stone (Bullock) and Kowalsky (Clooney) completely alone – tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

For a a gin-swilling riverboat owner/captain (Bogart) that answers to no one, the gravity of morality and idealism that exudes from a straight laced missionary (Hepburn), can be too much to bear, but can also be nothing short of emotional elevation following a shared adventure in, the Grans to Grans special fund-raising screening of The African Queen on Monday Oct. 21.
